"Cairo Citadel" the most famous historical landmark in Egypt

Cairo is full of historical and Islamic monuments that form the identity of this ancient city, and one of the most important of these features is the castle that was founded by Al-Nasir li-Din Allah  for his state “The Saladin Citadel”

The Citadel of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, or how it is called, “Cairo Citadel” due to its location on the Mokattam Mountain. It was founded by Al-Nasir li-Din Allah  in 1176 AD, but he did not complete it in his life, and it was completed by Al-Malik Al-Kamil Ibn Al-Adil, so he was the first to inhabit it and take it as a residence for the king

The citadel is considered one of the most luxurious citadels that were built in the Middle Ages, which is distinguished by its huge architectural beauty that amazes the world, and the most admired buildings in the citadel is that well that Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi dug for the army's watering, because the well is dug into the rock at a depth of 90 meters from the level of the castle's land. This required a lot of effort at the time

The castle witnessed many important historical events during the Ayyubid and Mamluk eras and the time of the French campaign against Egypt in 1798 AD, and until Muhammad Ali Pasha took over the rule of Egypt, where he restored its prosperity and greatness, and he built his mosque, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali or the Alabaster Mosque, as it is called or the Al Marmar Mosque, which was similar to Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul

The citadel includes many monuments of historical value, the most important of which are the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, the Mosque and School of Al-Nasir Qalawun, the Mosque of Suliman Pasha El-Khadem, the Mosque of Ahmed Katkhda Azban, and it also includes the Al-Jawhara Palace, the Haram Palace and the Al-Ablaq Palace, in addition to the Military Museum and the Police Museum
