Things not to do when traveling to Iceland
The weather in Iceland can change
drastically within a day, while most days of summer are expected; you may enjoy
experiencing the sunshine in the morning, the rain in the afternoon, and the
snowfall in the evening.
So even if the weather looks great from
your hotel window, you should still bring your heavy jacket with you during
your tours.
Do not go alone in the winter, and follow
the directions
Usually, the winds during the winter season
are severe in Iceland, especially if it coincides with frost, so tourists
should not go hiking in the winter without a local guide or a tourist guide,
and always wear appropriate clothing and bring ideal equipment for cold weather.
Biting beaches in Iceland are not suitable
for swimming, so when you see warning signs in Iceland, it means that you must
stick to them, and you should not stand too close to the sea there, do not turn
your back to the waves, not even to take a selfie in such beaches.
Don't walk on glaciers without a guide
Surface ice may look beautiful and strong,
but it can sometimes be dangerous. The ice can easily break and send you to the
icy depths of the glacier, so do not under any circumstances walk at the top of
a glacier without a certified mountaineer guide
Avoid buying bottled water from stores
Tap water in Iceland is one of the purest
drinking water in the world, so there is no need to buy bottled water.
So when you visit Iceland, make sure to get
a reusable bottle and drink the water that comes directly from the tap instead
of wasting money on bottled water. This will not only save you money, but there
is the added benefit of helping the environment by not purchasing prepackaged
products with plastic
Do not go alone and do not ignore the
warning signs
While nature in Iceland is breathtaking,
every year, tourists get lost or have accidents while hiking in isolated areas,
so if you want to go hiking in the remote parts of Iceland please go with a
group (preferably a tour guide) and make sure someone in your hotel knows your
plans.
Don't forget to exchange your leftover
Krona before leaving Iceland
The Icelandic krona is a currency that
banks outside of Iceland do not accept, so if you have any Icelandic krona you must
exchange it before leaving the country, unless you want to keep them as
souvenirs.
